Vibracion Cajon is a drumming interface that awakes a shared sense of identity in a musical performance session even for non-musicians. “Shared Identity” refers to the way in which players are aware of each other, and feel a sense of belonging with other players.
When people watch a performers’ musical session, sometimes a desire to play music is inspired even in those who do not have musical experience. This desire comes from aspirations for self-expression to share a sense of identity with others playing instruments. However, it usually requires much musical experience and technical skill. Vibracion Cajon can covey instrument’s vibration through instruments to other player. Therefore player can exchange very subtle nuance and rhythm with other player than merely sounds it self.
Based on the aforementioned research and considerations, I propose the hypothesis:
In a musical performance, aural (instruments’ sounds) and haptic (instrumental vibration) feelings are effective elements in creating a shared sense of identity between session players. Vibracion Cajon is a tool for verifying a this hypothesis.
Vibracion Cajon is expected to apply disable people playing instruments, and possibility of using for music therapy and eurhythmics. Vibracion Cajon holds promise in distributed session system to stimulate communication and apply to other telexistance system.
